Lessons Learned
We all know that at the completion of every big project or event the best way to find out what worked and what didn’t is to hold a “lessons learned” meeting. During a wonderful birthday dinner for a dear friend recently we discussed how valuable this tool is for all of life’s event’s. How many times have we trusted someone only to be disappointed or made a decision that ended in regret? If we really thought about the situation or event that didn’t go as we had hoped perhaps we may see trends or areas where we need to make internal changes.
Here are a few things to contemplate next time you ask yourself “what was I thinking?”
1. What was good about my decision?
2. What was acceptable and what was not regarding the way I was treated?
3. What “red flags” did I miss?
4. What internal changes do I need to make so that this does not happen again?
5. What steps do I need to take to make sure the situation is not repeated?
Perhaps by asking these few simple questions we will learn to forgive ourselves more and possibly even those who have hurt us and chalk it up to a lesson learned.
